NEW LISTINGS

FRIENDSHIP HOUSE TOUR GUIDES

The Whitfield-Manjiro Friendship Society is seeking volunteer tour guides for the Friendship House Museum at 11 Cherry Street in Fairhaven.  Starting May 1, 2010 the Museum will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5 PM.  Guides will also be needed for visits by appointment at various times.  Guides will be briefed on Manjiro and trained on the Museum tour.  For those who can contribute any amount of time it is a unique opportunity to learn of the rescue of Manjiro by Captain Whitfield and the profound influence Manjiro had on the modernization of Japan after he returned there with so much knowledge which he obtained here while living with Captain Whitfield. The museum consists of an administration level and two floors being furnished and re-decorated in the style of the early 1800's.  As well, guides will be in charge of the gift shop located on the first floor. Anyone having an interest in becoming a guide should call Gerry at 508-995-1219.
